A significant portion of the data collection consisted of remote probing of the atmosphere using micro sensors to determine micro fluctuations in temperature. Micro thermal probes mounted at various locations around the Verona test site measured temperature fluctuations in the atmosphere with thin-diameter wires to determine the magnitude of turbulence in different regions of the atmosphere. Balloon-borne radiosondes rising to altitudes of 100,000 feet collected data on temperature, wind speeds and directions, and humidity.
